Doorstep Revolution

Gentle/Radical is a Welsh artist collective that aims to bring people together through a range of creative community activities, including pop-up events, performative sharings, film screenings, walks, talks, meals, readings, and gatherings. It was recently shortlisted for the Turner Prize 2021 in recognition of its innovative work to inspire social change through art. 

The Doorstep Revolution project is a hyper-local street-by-street project that aims to redefine what is meant by ‘outreach’ and ‘engagement’ by maintaining a commitment to the area of Riverside, Cardiff through non-extractive exchange and ongoing conversations. Doorstep Revolution is creating a living portrait of Riverside by building an impressive collection of diverse stories, perspectives, dialogues and narratives around the Covid pandemic. Its approach has included old-fashioned door knocking, the sharing of colourful flyers, and interviewing residents on their doorsteps. Creative outputs have included a brand-new neighbourhood podcast as well as Riverside’s own multi-lingual cultural and community publication.

The Gentle/Radical team hope to continue lifting the experiences, the challenges, and the dreams of different futures, of those living on their doorstep.
